BREAKING: First leaked photo of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and key features detailed

Evan Blass (@Evleaks) of VentureBeat just leaked out a photo of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8. The photograph reveals no physical home button, a fingerprint sensor next to the camera and a larger display compared to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. He also confirms that Samsung will be releasing two models of the Galaxy S8.

According to VentureBeat, the two models will sport a massive 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED curved display. It is said that the screens will cover 83 percent of the front panels and will have an aspect ratio of 18.5:9.

Both handsets will come with Android Nougat on board and Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 chipset. Other areas will instead receive a Samsung Exynos processor. With that said, the new devices are expected to be 11 percent faster than the Galaxy S7, with 23 percent faster graphics processing, and should be 20 percent more energy efficient.

While it may be disappointing for some, it is reported that the 5.8-inch phone will have a battery size of 3000 mAh and the larger 6.2-inch model will have 3500 mAh. Have to hope that the devices are truly more energy efficient to digest the fact that the battery capacities were not increased from last year's models. RAM also remains unchanged as both devices will sport 4GB of RAM. Base internal memory will now be 64GB as opposed to the 32GB of on board storage found on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. The two new models will have the ability to expand memory via micro SD up to 256GB. Charging the upcoming devices will require a USB-C connection through the USB-C port located on the bottom of the device next to the headphone jack. Yes, a headphone jack

The report mentions that the cameras are not going to see a resolution improvement compared to the Galaxy S7. There will be a 12-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.7 aperture and a 8-megapixel front-facing camera, also with a f/1.7 aperture. Despite no resolution improvement and an updated front-facing camera, the main camera is believed to have a new visual search feature, with icons showing up on the screen that permit the user to indicate the type of search to be performed. For example, this feature can be used to perform Optical Character Recognition-enabled web searches with photographed text.

There was said to be additional features such as Samsung DeX, which allows the handset to be connected via a HDMI-equipped dock to a monitor for a desktop view of Android that can be controlled by a keyboard and mouse. Another feature is Samsung's new AI called Bixby. A direct competitor of Google Assistant and Apple's Siri, it is said that Bixby will be able to handle more complex commands and be launched by a physical button located on the side of the devices. Additionally, Bixby will be able to handle multi-part instructions. Lastly, force touch technology will also make its way to the new Galaxy S8 models. This pressure-sensitive input technology, which was first introduced by Apple on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, will allow the devices to differentiate between different types of screen touches.

VentureBeat indicated that Samsung's Unpacked event, an event that officially unveils the new handsets, will take place on March 29th in New York City and that the devices should be released sometime in April. The Galaxy S8 models in Europe will be €100 more than the Galaxy S7, with the 5.8-inch model carrying a price tag of €799 and the larger 6.2-inch model selling at €899. As of right now, it seems as black and silver are definite color options with the possibility of others to be announced at the Unpacked event.
