Android Wear 2.0 is now official

Big day for Google as they look to change the smartwatch game by introducing Android Wear 2.0. With this new version, Google brings some worthy new features to the table that will improve the user experience and make it more intuitive.

The first new feature will allow users to personalize the always-on display using information and gestures from many apps. For example, this includes calendars that shows your appointments, stock exchange trackers, fitness apps, Uber, contacts and more. Google Fit, which is built-in, also gets an upgrade as you can now track walks, runs, distance, calories burned, and if your watch has the appropriate sensor it can track your heart rate.

Perhaps one of the more intriguing new features is that Android Wear 2.0 will bring the Google Assistant to your wrist. This allows for a true hands-free experience. Get answers or directions, set reminders, reply to a text and so much more just by saying "Ok Google." At the moment, the Google Assistant is only available in English and German with more language support coming in the near future.

Ever wanted to go for a run or ride a bike without the inconvenience of having a big phone in your pocket, but not miss any important calls or texts? Now you can. Android Wear 2.0 will support cellular connectivity so that all of your calls and messages will direct right to your Android Wear smartwatch. Additionally, Android Wear 2.0 brings its own Google Play store so now apps will be downloaded directly onto the watch itself. For messages, you can also reply using Google Smart Reply which predicts potential text answers. Messages will also have a cleaner look that will be easier to use and reply to. All you have to do is click to expand the notification and input your response. Lastly, you can also draw emojis and send to any of your contacts.

It's been a long time coming, but Android Wear 2.0 is finally here!
