LG Watch Sport and Style

February 9, 2017

Yesterday, Google took the wraps off Android Wear 2.0. It is an impressive step up from the original version and comes with many usual features. With the announcement, Google also partnered up with LG to create the world's first Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches -- the LG Watch Sport and the LG Watch Style.

LG WATCH SPORT

Pre-loaded with Android Wear 2.0, the LG Watch Sport will come equipped with a 1.39-inch Full Circle P-OLED display that will look sharp even in bright conditions. The circular screen with be 480 x 480 and will pack in 348 ppi (pixels per inch). Other impressive specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset, an embedded 430 mAh battery, 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory.

What really stands out with this device is that it has an IP 68 water and dust resistant certification. It can be submerged up to 1.5 meters for about 30 minutes. It also has 4G LTE wireless connectivity which allows you to make calls, send texts or make payments using Android Pay without the need of a smartphone. Additionally, you can stream music directly from the watch with Google Play Music.

Charging up the LG Watch Sport is easy and is done via wireless charging. Just rest the watch on the provided cradle and let it juice up. Lastly, it also comes sports a digital crown for easier navigation.

LG WATCH STYLE

Out of the two new smartwatches, this one is the more basic of the two. The LG Watch Style does not pack in all the bells and whistles like its higher grade sibling does. The watch itself is smaller and thinner. It has a 1.2-inch Full Circle P-OLED display with a resolution of 360 x 360 that packs in 299 ppi. It does however, have the same Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor as the LG Watch Sport and comes pre-loaded with Android Wear 2.0. Additional specs include a tiny 240 mAh battery, 4GB of internal memory and 512MB of RAM.

The LG Watch Style does not have NFC (Near-Field Communication), which means no mobile payments via Android Pay and it does not have 4G LTE wireless connectivity. Your phone must be on you at all times for the watch to provide you with full functionality. It also does not have a loudspeaker, a GPS, and a heart rate sensor however, it does provide Google Assistant, but with visual feedback only. Lastly, it will have an IP 67 water and dust resistant certification.

PRICE AND RELEASE DATE

The LG Watch Sport comes in titanium and dark blue and retails for $379.99. It can be pre-ordered on February 10th at Verizon Wireless and AT&T. It is expected to be released in early March. The LG Watch Style will come in an elegant rose gold color, silver and titanium. It is priced at $249.99 ($279.99 for the rose gold model) and will be sold at Best Buy and the Google Store.
