The Razer Phone is a complete beast of a phone and is perfect for gaming

December 12, 2017

Razer has officially entered the smartphone market and did so in a big way. Last month they announced an extremely powerful smartphone that's aimed at gamers (as they say). I am not a big gamer myself but the device has many things I want in a daily driver such as, a beautiful screen, long-lasting battery, amazing audio quality, and powerful specs that allows it to handle anything you throw its way. Time to dig in.

DISPLAY AND PROCESSOR

Perhaps one of the most impressive things about the Razer Phone is the display. It features a 5.7-inch IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) LCD Quad HD display (1440 x 2560 resolution) with a ridiculous 120 Hz refresh rate. This kind of refresh rate is found on gaming monitors and means virtually no lag. Razer calls this UltraMotion technology. This device did not join the small bezel revolution.

Under the hood, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Octa-core (4x2.35 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo) processor powers the handset. In addition it has an Adreno 540 GPU, a whopping 8GB of RAM, and comes preinstalled with Android Nougat 7.1.1.

CAMERA, BATTERY, AND SOUND

On the rear of the handset, you'll find dual 12-megapixel cameras for what Razer calls "complete versatility." The primary camera will have a wide angle f/1.75 aperture and the telephoto lens will have a f/2.6. Dual tone flash is also on board to help make photos look more natural. In addition, the Razer Phone will have a 8-megapixel front-facing camera with a f/2.0 aperture. The lower the aperture, the more light gets taken in.

Perhaps one of the main selling points of the Razer phone is the battery. The handset has a monstrous 4000 mAh battery which should satisfy any user with all-day battery life. Completing this gamer phone, Razer incorporated stereo front-facing speakers, which is always a welcomed addition. Sadly, the device does not have a headphone jack.

Unfortunately, the Razer phone does not have many features that other top Android phones have. It lacks wireless charging, water resistance, and thin bezels. Not all is bad though, there's a lot to like about this device including a fingerprint sensor built into the power button.

PRICE

The Razer Phone retails for $699.99, comes in black and has 64GB of internal memory with the option to expand it up to 2TB via microSD. The device can be purchased directly from Razer, Amazon and some select Microsoft stores. Razer pushes this phone as a gaming phone, but this device truly can be for any user that's looking for a quality smartphone.
