Android 8.1 Oreo is finally here! This new software update includes some bug fixes and brings some welcomed enhancements. The biggest enhancement is to the camera, which makes the highest rated smartphone camera even better. This enhancement is AR Stickers.
AR (augmented reality) Stickers allows you to put virtual objects into your photos or videos and now you can do it if you own a Pixel smartphone. This camera features takes advantage of Googles ARCore technology, essentially replacing Google Tango which is expected to shut down on March 1st, 2018.
To get started, you must have a Pixel phone and be upgraded to the latest software (Android Oreo 8.1) If you're still on the older software, go to settings > system > system update and then select check for update, which should prompt you to download Android 8.1.
Once the phone is updated or if you were already on the latest version, head on over to the Google Play Store and download the app 'AR Stickers' which is made by Google. After the app is installed, go back to the Google Play Store homepage and press the menu bottom on the top left. Select 'My apps & games' which should bring you to the 'updates' section and click 'update' on the app ARCore (this should automatically be installed on your Pixel).
When this is finished, open up your Pixel camera app and press the menu button on the top left. Next, you will see AR Stickers as a new camera mode. Press AR Stickers and enjoy. At the moment the selection of stickers is limited, but still good and should be expanded in the near future. Til then, enjoy stickers from Star Wars, Stranger Things, and more!
