Samsung Galaxy S9+ rated best smartphone camera ever

DxOMark is back at it with yet another smartphone camera rating. This time, they reviewed the camera on the new Samsung Galaxy S9+. The results: we have a new number one smartphone camera in the world.

The Samsung Galaxy S9+ received a DxOMark score of 99 points, the highest rating ever, beating out the Google Pixel 2 (98 points) and now wears the crown for best smartphone camera. Others it beat on the list were the iPhone X (97), Huawei Mate 10 Pro (97), iPhone 8 Plus (94), Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (94), iPhone 8 (92), and Google Pixel (90).

In their review, the Galaxy S9+ received a photo score of 104, which was a new high, and a video score of 91. DxOMark notes that the device does not have any serious weaknesses. It takes excellent photos in good light and sunny conditions, producing bright colors and low levels of noise. In low light, DxOMark said that the handset is "equally impressive," keeping an excellent balance between noise and detail across all light levels.

Samsung's new smartphone boasts some premium camera specs. It has a dual-camera configuration that sports a 12-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture (f/1.5 and f/2.4 depending on the situation) and a 12-megapixel secondary camera that has a f/2.4 aperture. Both cameras also have OIS (optical image stabilization). In addition, the handset can record 4K video at 60 fps (frames per second) and record 720p super-slow-motion video at a whopping 960 fps.
