Not everyone likes change, but sometimes you have to do it for the better. Recently, I made the switch over to T-Mobile from Verizon Wireless and have nothing but positive things to say. This was a tough decision to make since I was a big advocate of Verizon, but now I can say I'm a big fan of the Un-carrier.
I was previously with Big Red for about 10 years and also worked for them for the last 3 years (I moved on to other employment a few months ago). T-Mobile always sparked my curiosity with their amazing deals, their changing of the wireless industry, and being able to use just about any phone with them due to their GSM (Global System for Mobile) network.
After moving on from my employment with Verizon (and losing my employee discount), I was more inclined to try the Magenta team. I did not think this was going to happen as soon as I wanted to because I had two phones that still had payments on them. Then, I hear about a brilliant little promotion of their's called #GetOutoftheRed which is aimed at converting Verizon customers.
This promotion would take care of my payments (up to $650) on a Galaxy S8/S8+, a Pixel device or an iPhone 6s or higher. Not only that, my wife would get to keep her Galaxy S8+ and I would get to keep my Pixel 2 XL. That's right, no trade-in required! I switched over faster than a blink of an eye.
I would have to port my numbers over as well as adding the $10 T-Mobile ONE Plus fee, but that was no problem at all. As a result, I nearly split my Verizon bill in half! On top of that, I have unlimited data with a much larger prioritization cap of 50GB (I only had a measly 22GB before network prioritization could potentially happen with Verizon), get free prizes every Tuesday, get a simple bill with taxes included (the price you see is the price you get), unlimited text and data internationally, free Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi calling, free Netflix, and noticeably faster speeds. I also like that you can bill accessories to your account and pay for it over time.
In addition, I have signal everywhere that I normally would have had with Verizon. Phone calls have been clear and none of them have dropped. Things could be different in a more remote area, but I'm fortunate enough to be in a big city.
Over the years, Verizon has made strides by offering consumers more competitive promotions, bringing back unlimited data, offering better rewards with Verizon Up, and becoming a little bit cheaper, however, none of that would have happened without T-Mobile. The Un-carrier has forced Big Red to make changes and be more competitive.
I never thought I would change wireless providers, but I actually did and it was one of my best decisions of 2018. The value and benefits you get with T-Mobile are unmatched and the customer service is excellent. All aboard the T-Mobile train!
