Yanny or Laurel? We did our own test involving Android smartphones!
The Yanny or Laurel phenomenon has taken the world by storm. For those unaware, there was an audio clip asking people if they hear "Yanny" or "Laurel." It spread like wildfire so we decided to do our own test using Android smartphones (and a tablet). Why not? Disclaimer: we did not do any research as to why some people hear "Yanny" and others hear "Laurel." This is just a test for fun.
In the test, several different smartphones and a tablet are playing the sound bite. Obviously, each smartphone has different speakers and different max volumes. With that said, the test was done hoping to get mixed results. The devices that were tested are as follows: Lenovo Tab 4, Google Pixel 2 XL, Moto Z2 Force edition, Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, and the HTC One M9.
Some devices have front-facing speakers, some have a rear speaker. Each were played using their own max volume and the tablet, which was the loudest of all the devices in the test, was tested at several different volume levels. I personally heard 'Laurel" in every instance, while some have reported hearing both! What do you hear?
