Active Edge (squeeze feature) will be on Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL

A few days ago, the folks over at XDA-Developers reported that Active Edge (the squeeze feature found on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL) will be making a return with Google's new flagship devices. The feature enables users to interact with the device by squeezing the frame. For instance, squeezing the frame to launch the Google Assistant.

This feature was first debuted on HTC devices and is called Edge Sense. Under HTC, the feature could do a bit more than what can be done with the Pixel. For example, you can short squeeze to launch the camera app or to take a screenshot, and more. With the Pixel, all you were able to do with the Active Edge feature is squeeze to launch the Google Assistant (unless you downloaded an app that can allow you to customize the function) and squeeze to silence alarms.

Recently, HTC brought even more capabilities to their new flagship device with Edge Sense 2. Personally, I am hoping Google takes a few plays out of HTC's playbook and incorporates some of those features into Active Edge. I would love to see Active Edge be used to interact with apps, to keep your screen from auto-rotating, to take photos, to launch a mini screen for one-handed uses, etc.

What do you think? Would you like to see Google expand on the Active Edge feature on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL?
