Samsung to release a foldable phone in March 2019?

Last week at their developers conference in San Francisco, Samsung possibly brought new excitement to the smartphone industry. At the event, the Korean tech giant showed off a prototype foldable smartphone.

Justin Denison, a senior vice president at Samsung, discussed the prototype and said the device sports a 7.3-inch display when unfolded. The device, which was revealed in the shadows, appeared to be inside of a box so that Samsung could keep the design a secret. Mr. Denison did demonstrate how the phone folds in half and confirmed that the smartphone pretty much extends into a tablet. When folded, users will be able to use a secondary 4.6-inch display.

Samsung stated that the new Infinity Flex display (foldable display) will be ready for mass production in the coming months. If a recent report is to be believed, Samsung plans to release their first foldable smartphone in March 2019. The foldable phone will be separate from the Galaxy S10, which is expected to be announced in February. Samsung President, Koh Dong-jin, did say that the company plans to launch a foldable smartphone in the first half of 2019, so that time frame in the report matches up.

It is reported that the Galaxy F (unofficial name for the foldable phone) will cost around $1,800, but unfortunately, is not expected to support a 5G network. It might be safe to assume that the coming weeks will provide us with more news via leaks. Stay tuned.
